Life Changes, Aging, Grief & Loss
Dealing with emotional and physical changes as we age
There can be no avoiding the different aspects of aging. Dealing with the physical aspects of our body changing takes a healthy attitude. Learning how to adapt to changes is both an emotional and a physical process. We need to accept what is changing in our bodies and our attitudes to these changes. Grief and loss are an integral part of life as we get older. Learning healthy ways of coping with loss and grief is essential to living out one’s life in happier and more fulfilling ways. Experiencing one’s partner or family member as they age can be problematic. Learning how to understand and cope with these aging phases is essential to a happier relationship.
Losing a family member or a spouse can be one of life’s most painful experiences. The feelings of grief can be overwhelming. Someone who is grieving is not only feeling sad but also hopeless and alone which leads to feelings of irritability and numbness. Loss does not always come from death but grief can be experienced when there is a severed relationship, loss of a pregnancy, a pet or even a job.
Another dimension of this process is to seek out support from a professional who will have a deeper understanding of the situation. In addition it is healthy to seek support from family, friends, a faith group or a support group. Seeking help from a professional therapist like myself is the best way to start healing. I can help you deal with change and even tragedy and given the time, to come to terms with the situation and eventually emerge perhaps a little scarred, but nonetheless intact and strong, so call me and “Let’s talk about it ...”
